Zhihua Temple is located in Dongcheng District, Beijing, just north of Lumicang East Entrance Road. It was built in 1444 during the early Ming dynasty by a high-ranking court eunuch named Wang Zhen. Originally constructed as a private family temple, it was later named “Zhihua Temple” (Temple of Gratitude and Wisdom) by imperial order. In 1961, it was listed as one of the first national key cultural heritage sites by the State Council. The temple faces south and follows a typical Ming-era layout. Despite several renovations over the centuries, it still preserves many features from early Chinese wooden architecture. As one of the largest and best-preserved Ming temples in Beijing, it offers valuable insight into traditional Chinese building styles and history.
