Located at the intersection of key transport corridors in northern China, Baoding has long served as a gateway between the Gobi region to the north and the Yellow River basin to the south. Its strategic position has made it a vital political and military hub across Chinese history. Historically, the city has played a central role in administrative reforms, military modernization, and early treaty port development—establishing its legacy as a key political and military stronghold across successive dynasties.
On June 15, 2020, Baoding Art Museum began its relocation to a new facility currently under construction. The venue will occupy three floors in the east wing of the Guan Hanqing Grand Theater - an architectural project led by Cui Kai, Chief Architect of China Architecture Design & Research Group, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and National Design Master.
