Liu Shaoqi Memorial Complex, located in Tanzichong Village, Huaminglou Town, Ningxiang City, Changsha, Hunan Province, is administered by the Liu Shaoqi Hometown Administrative Bureau. Covering approximately 1,300 mu (around 87 hectares), the site features a blend of memorial venues and cultural landscapes.
Key facilities include Liu Shaoqi’s Former Residence (a nationally protected historic site), the Memorial Gate and Bronze Statue Squares, the Liu Shaoqi Life and Achievements Exhibition Hall, the Labor Movement History Pavilion, the Liu Shaoqi Cultural Heritage Center, and the historic Tanzichong School where he once studied. Strategically located, the memorial lies 30 km west of Changsha (Hunan’s capital), 30 km east of Mao Zedong’s birthplace in Shaoshan, and 60 km north of Peng Dehuai’s hometown in Wushi. It serves as a key hub along Hunan’s prominent “Changsha–Huaminglou–Shaoshan–Zhangjiajie” red tourism route.
Since 2008, the memorial has offered free public admission in line with national cultural policy. With a strong focus on patriotism education and public engagement, the site welcomes over 10,000 visitors per day on average, surpassing 4.2 million visits in 2019. More than 200 Chinese leaders—including Xi Jinping, Hu Jintao, and Jiang Zemin—have paid visits to the site.
