Luoyang Peony Museum is located in Nanshan Park, at the southern end of Luoyang’s modern urban axis. As a newly planned cultural landmark of the city, it is currently China’s only professional museum dedicated to peony culture.
The museum stands 69 meters tall with 12 floors, including one basement level. The base structure consists of two elevated terraces reaching 15 meters, while the main pavilion rises 54 meters in a traditional multi-eaved tower design. Adopting a steel frame system, the structure is architecturally designed with five external tiers and nine internal levels. Employing a Neo-Tang Dynasty style, the museum features the classical layout of a central hall flanked by four corner towers.
The museum officially opened to the public during the 2022 Peony Culture Festival. The exhibition is centered on the theme “Luoyang Peonies Reign Supreme”, employing a curatorial strategy that combines:
artifact display and interactive experiences,
cultural relics and immersive scenography,
controlled natural lighting and artificial illumination,
traditional showcases with digital technology.
With a total exhibition area of over 9,600 square meters, the museum aspires to become a modern, internationally-minded institution dedicated to peony cultivation, cultural heritage, big data research, and industry development.
