The Hangzhou National Archives of Publications and Culture (Wenrun Pavilion),is one of China‘s four principal national archives for ancient publications. It is situated on the eastern side of the Liangzhu Ancient City Ruins—a World Heritage Site testifying to / that bears witness to over 5,000 years of Chinese civilization.
Designed to harmonize with the natural landscape, the architecture draws inspiration from Song Dynasty gardens and embodies the aesthetic of a contemporary book-collecting space.
With the garden located in the south, while the institution located in the north, this layout reflects the elegant charm of Jiangnan. The architectural scheme features interconnected courtyards and interwoven scenery that reinterpret the Song-era concept of "veiled beauty". Within this landscape-inspired architectural setting, the institution houses extensive collections of Chinese textual editions and historical artifacts.
