Sichuan Museum, originally established in 1941, has a history spanning over 80 years. The institution currently houses a collection of more than 350,000 cultural artifacts, including 70,000 significant artifacts of special historical value. In 2009, the museum inaugurated its new complex, covering approximately 58,667 square meters, within Chengdu's Huanhuaxi Historic and Cultural Scenic Area.
As the largest comprehensive museum in Southwest of China, it holds prominent position among China’s public museums. Today, Sichuan Museum operates 14 permanent exhibition hall spanning 12,000 square meters, featuring specialized collections in calligraphy/painting, ceramics, bronze ware, ethnic artifacts, decorative arts, Tibetan Buddhist relics, stone carvings from Wanfo Temple. Additionally, the museum includes four temporary exhibition halls for rotating exhibitions and a lecture hall that seats over 200 guests for academic conferences and public programs.
